Perhaps the most iconic and famous photo to come out of WWII was that taken by Joe Rosenthal on February 23rd 1945 atop Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima. The photograph featured five U.S. Marines and one Navy Corpsman raising the Stars and Stripes on the fifth day of the 35-day battle. Reflecting the ferocity of the fighting, only three of these men eventually survived the battle. This is perhaps the most reprinted photo of all time, and it remains an enduring image of WWII. Iwo Jima lies 1200km south of Tokyo, and after some of the fiercest fighting of the Pacific campaign, the island??s airfields could finally be used by Allied bombers.
Such a famous scene is a fitting subject for the very first diorama item in Dragon??s Action Figure range. This fabulous item features all six of these figures reproduced in 1/6 scale, as well as a diorama base and U.S. flag. Everything needed to recreate this recognizable image is included in this set entitled ??Uncommon Valor??. All collectors have to do is pose the figures appropriately on the base and raise the flag. Each figure has been carefully researched to ensure he is wearing the exact uniform and gear that can be seen in the photo of the original heroes. These action figures have received new sculpted heads complete with vivid expressions. The diorama base is realistic in appearance, representing the volcanic rock of the island that cost 26,504 American and 20,919 Japanese casualties to capture in that fierce battle. This is a dramatic and impressive reproduction of this famous moment in WWII, and Dragon now commemorates it and brings it alive in 1/6 scale!
